Publisher Bamforth

James Bamforth was originally known for making lantern slides. The business went form producing monochrome silent films around 1896, till the turn of the twentieth century. Originally a partnership formed with the Yorkhire company Riley brothers.
From 1910, Bamforth introduced the now familiar seaside postcards, specialising in the comic humour variety which have proved immensely popular. It was the rival Scarborough company of E.T.W. Dennis who came to the recue of Bamforth during the 1980’s, but this company itself, went into decline a few years later. A buyer was subsequently found to aquire the rights to the Bamforth images, and these are now relicenced and being sold, once again.
