Publisher E.T.W. Dennis

The first commercially printed postcards, originated at the E.T.W. Dennis factory in 1894. They went on to produce some of the best of the saucy seaside postcards, after aquiring the company of rival Yorkshire printers Bamforth.
Edward Thomas West Dennis was born in 1847, and had a Quaker upbringing, similar to postcard publisher Francis Frith. His successful postcard venture lasted until 2000 when the factory in Melrose Street closed its doors for the last time.
A fellow Yorkshire businessman, stepped in to buy the copyright to over 60,000 images and is now steadily releasing the images once again. Of particular note, are the Dennis Photoblue postcards, a mono production enhanced with blue tints. Also look out for the Dainty Series, a popular series of postcards, sought after by collectors.
