Publisher Valentine's

John Valentine and son James, were Litho printers from Dundee in Scotland,UK. James contributed the early photos for reproduction. From the 1880’s, his sons began printing Christmas Cards, after his death. The first postcards, were printed 1890’s. Early Canadian cards, can be found depicting, the Canadian Pacific Railway, although the offices in Canada closed around 1923. The company was purchased, firstly by John Waddington in 1963, later by Hallmark Cards in 1980.
Some Valentine cards identified by prefix e.g. 2/2921.J.V. (Initials) often sepiatone or B&W. Rearside identifiers are mirrored globe, perched between the word Post Card. Generally the phrase, this is a real photograph, appear mid centre, dividing address from memo.
