Nostalgic View West Pier 1906. Published by Boots Cash Chemists. . Fine detailed view of the pier, built in 1863, by Eugenius Birch, an engineer, opening in 1866, at a cost of £27,000. Extended pier head and large pavilion erected in 1893, used as Concert Hall, with 1400 seats.In WW2, pier was closed, cut in two to prevent an enemy landing. The structure has been closed to the public since 1975, then in 2003 it suffered intense damage due to an arson attack. Has been a very popular card, judged by the handling and wear to the edges.
