Latton Harlow Postcard from the local independant publisher,B. Pavitt Potter Street Harlow. In very good order throughout, featuring The Clock Tower. The postmaster, B. Pavitt and wife Harriett had seven children,Frederick,Charles,William,Mary,Ellen,Alice & Rose. Frederiickjoined Royal Navy in 1911, No. 280876. On 17th Sept 1917, while protecting a merchant convoy of ships from Norway, he was killed in action. The ship was sunk and was “The Mary Rose”. M Class Destroyer, which had been launched in 1915.He was 41 y.o. and commemorated on Chatham War Memorial. Private Charles Pavitt T. 202530 enlisted in Harlow having been formerley in the Territorial Army. Later serving with the First Battalion of The East Kent Regiment. Charles died on 31st August 1918, aged 41 and is buriedin Longewenesse, St. Omer, Souviner Cemetary in France. Plot No. 5, Row F, Grave No. 73,Register Fr 141. Postcard mailed by 1918, or earlier.
